THE COLOURS WORLD
1. Introduction
Color (character) has an
important place in painting. Colour is a miraculous effect on the retina
of the viewer. Colour produces the importance in human life, and the fundamental
value of painting as a medium to awaken aesthetic curiosity. In the
absence of colour, anything in the world is meaningless. The quality of
that shape is felt by color through which the beauty of that shape can be
identified. Color evokes human emotions. Colour is detected by
light. Colors also express a sound and atmosphere.
The word varna for color
has been in use since the Rigvedic period.' Many types of colors are
mentioned, but it is difficult to tell on what basis the Vedic people used to
differentiate between colors. The distinction between red and yellow
colors has been mentioned several times in the Rigveda. Black is called
Krishna and white is called Shwet. The names of the distinctions of substances
like red, black etc. are 'colour'. Varna or color means the color of
matter. There are three main colors – red, blue, and yellow. On the
basis of their mixture, many differences of color can be made. Only by
the proper management or selection of colors in the picture, there comes life
and softness in it. It is through light rays that we see the color of the
object." The element or substance from which colours, are made for the work
of dyeing.” The most importance is given to color in painting. The reason
for this is that human vision goes first to colored objects. The
radiation of energy that we perceive through the eyes, we give it the name of
colour. The difference in color is experienced only in the light.
Color is also an indicator of vitality.
Color is such an element
which is related to nature. It is used in human life and it has also been
considered important. The existence of colors is known from the surface
effect. Color has an emotional meaning. Human beings have always been
attracted towards colours. From the beginning till now, there has been a
continuous increase in the human mind's attachment towards colors. At
present, different shades of colors are being used by changing them in many
ways. Elegance comes from the qualities of colors in artwork. This
base expresses the aura of the colors.
2.
Knowledge of colour
Knowledge of the actual
color of an object is perceived by the rays of light. In 1670 AD, Isaac
Newton told that the origin of color is from light. As soon as a glimpse
of light falls on the real color of the object, it gets absorbed in it and
returns the light of the color by the process of reflection. In such a
situation, the colour quality of the object is identified.
Different waves of
colors are visible in the object only through light. Expressing the color
aura depends on the ability of the skilled artist. The notation of the
color wheel inThe Coloring Book by Bandon Blake is as follows.
3.
Properties of colours
Three qualities of colours
are mainly considered –
·
Hue
·
Value
·
Density
Hue
Colors are recognized by
their effects, because natural qualities are present in colors. Color qualities
are known in different forms from the point of view of character. Such
are the nature of colours. Each character is identified by its color.
Color is power for a painter. The main primary colors used to
express our aura are red, green and blue. Apart from these colours, there
are other colors too which include yellow, orange and violet.
Ostwald's colour
law
Renowned German scholar
Ostwald imagined a color wheel of eight colors, in which the main colors are
yellow-blue, green-red, orange-blue-green, and yellow-green-violet.
Force
(Value)
The lightness and darkness of colors is called strength or value. Mixing a light color with any color increases the power of that color. If dark color is mixed in any color, then the strength of that color decreases.
It is also called
light-darkness of colour. The effect of different colors is visible in
different postures. The excess of color power in the picture is called 'aura'
and the minimum is called 'shadow'. Such effects are expressed on
the basis of tone, which produces the condition of shadow and light.
It is identified by the color force in the
picture. To know the value of color in any picture, a strip of it should
be taken. The way the vision is attracted in its color strength, in the
same way the value of the color tone is assessed. The value of colour
decreases towards light.
Density (Chroma)
Density in painting is the quality that
gives a strong impression of colorful purity. The brighter the colour,
the more intensely the glimpse of cleanliness will be felt and the more intense
it remains.
Density or chroma is derived from the
purity of the colour, the more pure the colour, the more dense it will be.'
Color is a beacon based on psychological properties. The attraction
that is seen in the concentration of colors on the basis of the pillar of light
leads to visual knowledge of the object. According to Herbert Rode- three
aspects of colours are as follows:-
v Colors affect the mood of
a person.
v Color
has the quality that it can enhance or reduce the appearance of any object.
v Color definitely has an effect.
The sequence of colors in the above chart is as follows- Green-Blue, red-green,
yellow green-blue violet, orange-blue green.
4. Classification of colours
On the basis of mutual pure mixture of colors, the
classification of colors is done as follows: -
4.1. Primary colour
The primary colors are red, green, blue and yellow.
These colors cannot be made by mixing in any way. Mixing
light-emitting colors converts them into white light. In which green, red
and purple are.By the way, red, white, yellow, green and black are considered
as the main colours. From the psychological point of view, red, green, yellow
and blue are the four main colours.
4.2. Intermediate Colours
The intermediate color is formed by the mixture of
any two pure colors. In this way, the attainment of three colors is
called intermediate colors, in which yellow, blue, violet, red, blue are.
4.3. Adjacent colours
These colors consist of colors in the same range,
which are yellow, blue, orange. Yellow color is mainly in it. Apart
from this, the colors can be imagined in different ways. Different
methods should be kept in mind in the use of such colors.
5.
